Indian automaker Tata Motors Ltd. on Sept. 17 said it partnered with U.K.-based What3Words Ltd. to equip its cars with the latter's plug-in addressing system.
What3Words' system allows drivers to enter a three-word address through voice or text input and then navigate to that address within three meters of the destination location. It also has an AutoSuggest feature that helps drivers spot and correct mistakes in the address.
Tata Motors said the system will make last-mile navigation easier and less time-consuming for Indian consumers.
"The three-word addressing will not only provide a more seamless navigation experience, but will also increase efficiency with drivers not spending a lot of time locating their destinations and reaching the precise location (within 3m of space) with minimum hassle and effort," said Mayank Pareek, president for passenger vehicle business unit at Tata Motors.
The Indian carmaker said it will the system will be available in its future vehicles, but it did not disclose a timeline.
What3Words' addressing system is available in 36 languages, including five Indian languages.
