Oracle wins revival of copyright case against Google

A U.S. appeals court revived Oracle Corp.'s copyright case against Google Inc., Reuters reported March 27.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that Google's use of Oracle's Java development platform to create the Android operating system was not protected under the fair use provision of copyright law.

The case has reportedly been sent back to a U.S. judge in San Francisco for a trial to decide what Google may have to pay Oracle for using the Java platform.

Oracle had previously sought $9 billion for the use of its Java programming language.

Google is owned by Alphabet Inc.
