Merck acquires German laboratory informatics firm

Merck KGaA acquired Darmstadt, Germany-based laboratory informatics company BSSN Software GmbH.

BSSN Software develops data management and integration software that unifies data from instruments and data systems to make them available for analyzing, processing and sharing.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

BSSN Software's employees joined Merck as part of the company's applied digital lab productivity solutions team.

The German pharmaceutical giant, which has been working with BSSN Software since 2014, said the acquisition will allow for commercial growth of the lab data management technology and boost its digital laboratory productivity business.

Merck is combining BSSN Software's technology with its market access and laboratory domain knowledge to develop and commercialize a laboratory data platform, which will allow customers to use and share their scientific data.
