Campbell Soup Co. said its normalized net income for the fiscal third quarter ended May 3 amounted to 55 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 52 cents per share.
EPS climbed 6.0% year over year from 52 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $173.1 million, an increase from $165.4 million in the third quarter ended April 27, 2014.
The normalized profit margin climbed to 9.0% from 8.4% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue decreased on an annual basis to $1.90 billion from $1.97 billion, and total operating expenses declined year over year to $1.58 billion from $1.67 billion.
Reported net income came to $181.0 million, or 58 cents per share, compared with $183.3 million, or 58 cents per share, in the third quarter ended April 27, 2014.
