Bauba Platinum awards contract for chrome wash plant at Moeijelijk mine

Bauba Platinum Ltd. awarded an 18.4 million South African rand contract for the development and commissioning of a chrome spiral circuit wash plant and primary crushing circuit at its Moeijelijk chromite mine in South Africa.

The contract was awarded to an undisclosed company, according to a Feb. 19 release.

Bauba expects the plant to be commissioned in July. It will upgrade Moeijelijk's current chrome ore run-of-mine salable product into a lumpy and then foundry, chemical and metallurgical-grade concentrates.

The circuit will have a monthly capacity of 41,000 tonnes of run-of-mine chrome ore, and the spiral wash plant will have a planned monthly feed capacity of 35,000 tonnes.

Bauba said stable underground production of 30,000 tonnes per month is still on track to be achieved by the first half of its fiscal 2019.

The company restarted Moeijelijk in January 2017, a year after the mine was placed on care and maintenance due to low chrome ore prices.
