Italy industrial production falls more than expected in April

Industrial production in Italy declined more than expected in April following a rebound in March, data from the country's National Institute of Statistics showed.

The seasonally adjusted industrial production index was down 1.2%, overshooting Econoday's forecast of a 0.7% decline. The index was down 0.7% in the three months to April from the previous three-month period.

Industrial production rose 1.9% in April from a year earlier, after calendar adjustments, while the unadjusted index was up 6.7%.

The calendar-adjusted industrial production index gained 3.1% in the first four months of the year, compared with 3.6% in the year-ago period.
