Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. said its normalized net income for the fiscal first quarter ended April 4 amounted to 26 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 41 cents per share.
EPS increased 34.8% year over year from 20 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $4.4 million, an increase of 32.9% from $3.3 million in the first quarter ended March 29, 2014.
The normalized profit margin rose to 4.7% from 3.4% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue decreased year over year to $93.4 million from $97.9 million, and total operating expenses decreased 6.8% on an annual basis to $86.4 million from $92.7 million.
Reported net income rose 36.0% from the prior-year period to $6.7 million, or 40 cents per share, from $4.9 million, or 29 cents per share.
