7-Eleven Australia, a unit of Japanese convenience store operator Seven & i Holdings Co. Ltd., is testing out a parcel locker service in about 20 stores, Internet Retailing reported May 4, citing a company spokesperson.
The service allows online shoppers to have their orders shipped to a 7-Eleven parcel locker, as long as the retailer they're buying from uses a courier service that works with parcel collection service Parcelmate. The trial will last for several months, according to the news site.
The report said the service is carrier-neutral, which means 7-Eleven can work with an array of delivery and courier companies. It also cuts down chances of missed deliveries since convenience stores tend to have longer business hours than post offices, the report added.
