Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. said June 4 that same-store net sales of its Uniqlo apparel chain in Japan fell 2.7% year over year in May.
The apparel retailer said that the decline was caused by the high number of cold days during the month, which led to weak demand for summer goods.
Sales for Uniqlo Japan's directly run stores, excluding online sales, also decreased 5.3% year over year. Meanwhile, total sales, including online sales, fell 2.5%.
Customer numbers decreased 6.9% on a same-store basis in May. However, average purchase per customer rose 4.5% year over year.
