Microsoft Corp. acquired video-based social learning platform Flipgrid for an undisclosed sum.
The software giant will make Flipgrid available for free to schools. Those who have bought a subscription from Flipgrid will receive a prorated refund, according to a June 18 official blog post.
Microsoft said Flipgrid has "a mission of empowering educators as they help students define their voices, share their voices and respect the diverse voices of others."
Flipgrid is used in 180 countries by more than 20 million prekindergarten to Ph.D.-level educators, students and families.
