J. M. Smucker Co. said its normalized net income for the fiscal second quarter ended Oct. 31 came to $1.67 per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of $1.90 per share.
EPS increased 6.2% year over year from $1.58.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $189.0 million, an increase from $182.8 million in the prior-year period.
The normalized profit margin climbed to 9.8% from 9.5% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue came to $1.92 billion, compared with $1.91 billion in the year-earlier period, and total operating expenses totaled $1.58 billion, compared with $1.58 billion in the prior-year period.
Reported net income rose 9.6% year over year to $193.2 million, or $1.71 per share, from $176.3 million, or $1.52 per share.
