Google to purchase 196 MW from Avangrid S.D. wind farms

Alphabet Inc. subsidiary Google Inc. has inked a contract to purchase renewable power from Avangrid Renewables LLC's 98-MW Coyote Ridge and 98-MW Tatanka Ridge wind facilities in Brookings and Deuel Counties, S.D.

The power purchase agreement for 196 MW of wind will strengthen Google's commitment to sourcing 100% of its electricity purchases from renewable resources, and purchasing physical electricity and associated renewable energy credits that equal its cumulative global energy consumption, Avangrid said.

According to a Nov. 30 news release, the Avangrid Inc. subsidiary is wrapping up development work at the two wind farms and expects to be in full construction by 2019. Once the Coyote Ridge and Tatanka Ridge wind facilities reach commercial operations, Avangrid Renewables said it will own and operate more than 500 MW of wind power in South Dakota.
