Ford Motor Co. on Oct. 2 reported a 4.9% year-over-year decline in U.S. sales for the third quarter of 2019.
The Michigan-based automaker sold 580,251 vehicles during the period, compared with 609,934 vehicles sold in the year-ago quarter.
Ford's car sales dropped 29.5% year over year in the third quarter, while the company's SUV sales decreased by 10.5%. However, the company registered an 8.8% increase in truck sales.
The automaker's Ford brand reported a 5.6% year-over-year drop in sales, while sales at the company's Lincoln brand increased 11.7%.
Ford said its Lincoln brand's SUV sales in the quarter were the highest since 2003, with 21,354 units sold.
Shares of the company were down 4.61% to $8.49 in afternoon trading on Oct. 2.
