The trading of Alphabet Inc. and Apple Inc. stock was disrupted after the Dow Jones Newswires circulated a report with false information claiming the two companies were close to a merger.
The shares of the companies shot up on the news initially, though they later settled.
The newswire falsely reported that Google Inc. planned to acquire Apple for $9 billion. Dow Jones blamed a "technical error" for the mistake, according to an Oct. 10 9to5mac report.
