Cathay Pacific chairman retires

Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. announced the retirement of Chairman John Slosar, who will be replaced by Patrick Healy.

The move, effective Nov. 6, comes more than two weeks after the resignation of CEO Rupert Hogg on Aug. 16 over the involvement of the airline's staff in anti-government protests. Hong Kong on Sept. 4 officially withdrew a proposed extradition bill that sparked monthslong protests.

Healy, who currently serves as managing director of Swire Coca-Cola Ltd., will also take on the role of Swire Coca-Cola's chairman and retain responsibility for the group's worldwide beverages business.

In August, Cathay Pacific warned of a "significant impact" on its earnings in August and beyond amid the Hong Kong protests, and warned employees that misusing social media could violate Chinese restrictions.
