Verizon targeting carbon neutrality by 2035

Verizon Communications Inc. CEO Hans Vestberg reaffirmed the company's commitment to attain carbon neutrality by 2035, through emissions reduction, as well as investments in renewable energy and carbon offsets.

Verizon committed to setting a science-based emissions reduction target by September 2021 to further emissions reductions in line with the Paris Agreement.

The company also aims to make on- and off-site renewable investments that will help the company source renewable energy equivalent to about 50% of its total annual electricity consumption by 2025.

Other sustainability targets include recycling about 5 million pounds of e-waste by 2022, reduction of water consumption by about 15% by 2025 and planting about 10 million trees by 2030.

Verizon also closed in February 2019 a green bond offering of $1 billion intended to fund environmental initiatives.
