Golden Star reports commercial production at Prestea underground gold mine

Golden Star Resources Ltd. said its Prestea underground gold mine in Ghana achieved commercial production Feb. 1 and gold production is expected to continue to ramp up over the year.

Exploration drilling is underway at the mine, with a view to raise its annual production rate and extend its mine life. The company expects to produce 93,000 to 113,000 ounces of gold from its Prestea complex, including both underground and open pit operations, at a cash operating cost of US$740/oz to US$880/oz.
