General Motors Co. is recalling over 3.4 million big pickup trucks and SUVs in the U.S. to fix a brake problem, The Associated Press reported Sept. 11.
The company also recalled 310,000 vehicles in Canada in June to fix the same problem, the report added.
The pump in the power-assist brakes of the recalled vehicles can put out less vacuum power than needed, leading to an increased stopping distance and risk of a crash.
The recall involves Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups from the 2014 through 2018 model years. The recall also includes the Cadillac Escalade from 2015 to 2017 and the GMC Yukon and Chevy Suburban and Tahoe from 2015 through 2018.
The move follows an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which began in November 2018.
Dealers will recalibrate the electronic brake control module to customers at no cost.
