Insurance firms file lawsuit against Chile government over flooding damages

Insurance companies Chubb Seguros Chile SA, Seguros Generales Suramericana SA and Liberty Compania de Seguros Generales SA have filed a joint lawsuit against Chile's Treasury, construction firm Sacyr and road operator Costanera Norte, La Tercera reported.

The companies are reportedly claiming about $56.3 million in total damages caused by the flooding of the Mapocho River in April 2016 during heavy rains. They claim some damages were caused by water flowing out of a tunnel which Sacyr was constructing for Chile's Ministry of Public Works and the Treasury failed to properly monitor.
