Pernod Ricard SA on Aug. 29 broke ground on its first distillery in China, with a potential investment of 1 billion yuan or $150 million.
The 13-hectare malt whisky distillation facility, situated at Emeishan in the Sichuan Province, is expected to begin production in 2021, the French liquor-maker said.
China-based architects Neri&Hu have been commissioned to design the distillery.
As of Sept. 3, US$1 was equivalent to 7.18 Chinese yuan.
