Toyota Motor Corp.'s venture capital arm Toyota AI Ventures, LLC participated in a $3.6 million funding round for Los Angeles-based robotics platform startup Elementary Robotics.
Toyota AI Ventures, which invests in artificial intelligence-focused startups, joined the seed round with Ubiquity Ventures, Riot.vc, Osage University Partners and Stage Venture Partners. The funding round was co-led by Fika Ventures and Fathom Capital.
"We look forward to being an early adopter of Elementary's technology, and exploring how we can use it in the future as part of our advanced research around assistive robotics," Max Bajracharya, director of Robotics at Toyota Research Institute, said in a Dec. 19 statement.
Meanwhile, Elementary Robotics said Fika Ventures general partner Eva Ho will join the startup's board, alongside Arye Barnehama, Elementary's co-founder and CEO.
Elementary Robotics said it aims to be the world leader in the next generation of assistive robotics.
The startup had previously closed $1.2 million in pre-seed funding in October 2017.
