Mednax acquires eye care practice in Washington

Mednax Inc. said it acquired Kirkland, Wash.-based Children's Eye Care LLC, a private pediatric ophthalmology practice.

The Sunrise, Fla.-based healthcare services provider did not disclose the deal price but said it was a cash transaction and is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings.

Children's Eye Care specializes in pediatric eye care and surgical services, and has one patient office and provides services to four regional hospitals.

The practice also treats retinopathy of prematurity, an eye disease affecting prematurely born babies, the treatment for which includes laser ablation and Roche Holding AG's Avastin therapy.

Krista Heidar will serve as medical director for the practice.

Mednax said the new acquisition adds to the services it provides in Washington through its affiliated network. It is the third physician group practice to join the company in 2018.
