Report: Blue Cross Blue Shield seeks 48% rate hike in Wyoming

Amid uncertainty over whether the government will continue making cost-sharing reduction payments, Blue Cross Blue Shield has sought a 48% hike in premiums next year for Affordable Care Act plans in Wyoming, reported the Casper Star Tribune, citing company spokeswoman Wendy Curran.

She said the subsidies, which are reimbursements that insurers get from the federal government, have a "fairly big impact" on the rates.

Blue Cross Blue Shield, which is the only insurer on the Wyoming exchange, submitted its proposal to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for approval earlier this year. CMS is expected to rule on the filings in September.
