Sports Direct acquires Jack Wills for £12.8M

Sports Direct International PLC said Aug. 5 that it has acquired the business and assets of clothing retailer Jack Wills Ltd. for £12.8 million.

The Guardian reported Aug. 4 that Sports Direct and Philip Day, owner of The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Ltd., were competing to acquire Jack Wills, which was in administration.

In July, Jack Wills appointed advisory firm KPMG to evaluate options for the company, including a sale, according to The Guardian.

Sports Direct, a U.K.-based sporting goods retailer, on July 26 disclosed that it owes Belgium €674 million in taxes. The company on July 9 made an unconditional cash offer to acquire all of video game company Game Digital PLC.
