Columbia Banking System names chairman

Columbia Banking System Inc. appointed Craig Eerkes chairman of the board.

Eerkes has served on the board of the Tacoma, Wash.-based company and its unit, Columbia State Bank, since 2014.

Eerkes succeeds William Weyerhaeuser, who will remain on the board as a director. Weyerhaeuser had been serving as chairman since 2001.

Weyerhaeuser, along with directors John Folsom and David Dietzler, will retire from the board at the 2019 annual meeting of shareholders. This is in accordance with the company's governance policy that requires mandatory retirement at age 75.
