Volkswagen AG's Audi AG brand will name Bayerische Motoren Werke AG engine development expert Markus Duesmann as its next CEO effective April 1, 2020, Reuters reported Sept. 14, citing German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
A source close to the matter said Duesmann, who also leads BMW's purchasing and supplier network, will not renew his contract with the carmaker when it expires Sept. 30 to join Audi.
In July 2018, Volkswagen said Duesmann accepted a seat on its board following the arrest and ouster of Audi's then-CEO Rupert Stadler for his suspected role in VW's "dieselgate" emissions-rigging scandal. VW added that Duesmann will take up his position "as soon as he is able to do so."
Duesmann will replace interim CEO Abraham Schot, who took up the post in June 2018 after Stadler's arrest.
