A director general at the European Central Bank's supervisory division said that banks embracing external data storage and other digital technology face a good chance of getting hacked, Bloomberg News reported.
According to Korbinian Ibel, the cloud will attract hackers and "there will be accidents."
Banks have hired tech experts and sometimes appointed them to top management positions, which is good but doesn't go far enough, Ibel said in an interview with the newswire.
"It's not enough to have one person as the IT expert," he said. "You need a common understanding at board level of the needs and risks of IT."
