EU launches €750M funding call for clean energy infrastructure

The European Commission is allocating €750 million in the latest funding round of the Connecting Europe Facility to support the construction of clean energy infrastructure projects with cross-border benefits.

Proposed projects must have a "significant impact" on at least two EU countries and must increase competitiveness, improve energy security and contribute to the development and environmental protection.

The proposals will be evaluated based on their state of maturity, security of supply, solidarity or innovation, and the extent to which public support is needed to remove financing delays. The 2019 CEF Energy call for proposals will be open until June 13.

In the previous funding round of CEF, EU members allocated €800 million for projects, including two proposed transmission lines to the U.K.

CEF-Energy envisages a total budget of €5.35 billion for trans-European energy infrastructure from 2014 to 2020.
