FERC allows Transco to put NJ gas pipeline facilities in service

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co. LLC an in-service authorization for the remaining natural gas pipeline facilities associated with the Rivervale South to Market expansion project in Bergen and Hudson counties in New Jersey.

In an Aug. 30 notice, FERC staff granted the authorization based on information from project status reports, photo documentation and the staff's June 19 field inspection. The project is designed to add 190,000 Dth/d of gas transportation capacity to the Transco system to help meet growing gas demand from customers in New Jersey and New York.

Transco, a Williams Cos. Inc. company, had asked the commission to authorize service on the facilities by Sept. 1. The company said the facilities were ready to flow gas and restoration was proceeding well. The last of the project facilities included less than a mile of 42-inch pipeline loop along Transco's Mainline A in Bergen County, as well as valve upgrades and yard piping at a metering and regulating station in Hudson County.

On June 21, FERC granted Transco a partial-path, interim service authorization allowing some facilities on the expansion to be placed into service. The commission approved the $128 million expansion project in August 2018 and gave the developers permission to begin construction in October 2018. (FERC docket CP17-490)
