SK Hynix profit misses consensus by 24.5% in Q4

SK Hynix Inc. said its normalized net income for the fourth quarter amounted to 861.62 South Korean won per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 1,141.05 won per share.

EPS decreased 42.3% year over year from 1,494.13 won.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was 608.30 billion won, a decrease of 44.1% from 1.088 trillion won in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin fell to 13.8% from 21.1% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue decreased 14.2% year over year to 4.416 trillion won from 5.148 trillion won, and total operating expenses declined on an annual basis to 3.427 trillion won from 3.481 trillion won.

Reported net income decreased 46.4% on an annual basis to 870.25 billion won, or 1,232.65 won per share, from 1.625 trillion won, or 2,231.06 won per share.

For the year, the company's normalized net income totaled 4,567.97 won per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus normalized EPS estimate of 5,908.33 won.

EPS rose from 4,258.17 won in the prior year.

Normalized net income was 3.290 trillion won, a gain from 3.058 trillion won in the prior year.

Full-year total revenue rose from the prior-year period to 18.798 trillion won from 17.126 trillion won, and total operating expenses increased on an annual basis to 13.462 trillion won from 12.016 trillion won.

The company said reported net income rose year over year to 4.322 trillion won, or 6,002.08 won per share, in the full year, from 4.195 trillion won, or 5,841.65 won per share.

As of March 1, US$1 was equivalent to 1,233.17 South Korean won.
