Japan's JERA Co. Inc. on Jan. 6 announced that the Formosa 1 offshore wind project in Taiwan started commercial operation Dec. 27, 2019.
Formosa 1 is situated about 2 km to 6 km off the coast of Miaoli County and have a total capacity of 128 MW. The first phase of the project, which represents a capacity of 8 MW, began operation in April 2017, while the second phase representing a capacity of 120 MW started construction in June 2018.
The project is 35% owned by Ørsted A/S, 32.5% by JERA, 25% by Macquarie and 7.5% by Taiwanese firm Swancor Renewable Energy Co. Ltd.
