Unilever sells Chicken Tonight sauce brand to Zwanenberg

Food and beverage giant The Unilever Group sold its Chicken Tonight sauce brand to Netherlands-based canned meat and sausage products maker Zwanenberg Food Group BV for an undisclosed sum, food industry news site just-food.com reported Sept. 18, citing a company statement.

Zwanenberg has been producing the sauce for Unilever in the Netherlands since 2017 and will now take over marketing and sales of the product, according to the report.

While Chicken Tonight is sold in other territories, the deal only involves ownership of the brand in the Netherlands, the news outlet added.

Debora van der Zee, marketing director at Unilever, reportedly said the sale is an "appropriate and logical step."

Zwanenberg has over 1,600 employees and posts an annual turnover of approximately €400 million, according to its website. It produces meat brands Kips and Huls and has production sites in the Netherlands, the U.K. and the U.S.
