Sinclair says no special deal with Trump

Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. dismissed media reports that it offered "favorable or preferential treatment" to President-elect Donald Trump during his election campaign.

In a Dec. 19 statement, Scott Livingston, vice president of news at Sinclair, said the company offered both major presidential candidates the same opportunities on a regular basis, and there was no deal on the "tone, tenor, or subject of the interviews."

Politico reported Dec. 16 that Sinclair had allegedly struck a deal with Trump during his presidential election to air interviews with the candidate without added context in exchange for access.

In a Dec. 19 blog post, Andrew Seaman, the chair of the Society of Professional Journalists' ethics committee, backed Livingston's statement and apologized to Sinclair for assuming the statements reported in the Politico story were accurate.
