Mitsubishi Motors Corp. on Feb. 27 provided Indonesia's Ministry of Industry with electric vehicle products to be used for a joint study on developing the country's electric vehicle infrastructure.
The Japanese automaker presented to the Indonesian government eight units of its Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid SUV, two units of its i-MiEV pure electric vehicle and four battery charger units.
Mitsubishi said the joint study with the Ministry of Industry will focus on how Indonesia's existing traffic infrastructure can accommodate electric vehicles. Research will include using Mitusbishi's electric vehicles in different environments across the country, ranging from urban areas to remote islands. It will also use the Outlander PHEV model to track the energy management potential of electric vehicles.
Mitsubishi CEO Osamu Masuko said in a statement that the company views Indonesia, with its young population, as "one of the most promising markets in Southeast Asia."
