Zimbabwean authority to cancel Latitude Consolidated's Mbeta lithium claims

Latitude Consolidated Ltd. received a notice from the Ministry of Mines & Mining Development in Gwanda, Zimbabwe, that it intends to cancel the certificates of registration issued for claims over the Mbeta lithium project in the region.

The ministry said the mine was registered on land that is not open to prospecting and pegging, according to an Oct. 14 release.

The company said it does not operate a mine on the claims and considers the proposed cancellation to be illegal.

Latitude intends to immediately appeal the cancellation and consider other steps to protect its interest in the registered claims.

The company signed a binding agreement to acquire Mbeta in April 2018. The project comprises 13 claims over 18 square kilometers.
