Kellogg Co.-owned MorningStar Farms LC on Sept. 4 unveiled a new plant-based product range, called Incogmeato, in a bid to capitalize on the growing number of consumers who are actively reducing meat consumption.
Incogmeato by MorningStar Farms will include ready-to-cook plant-based burger patties and fully prepared plant-based Chik'n tenders and nuggets. They are made with non-GMO soy, according to the release.
The food range will be available in grocery stores and food service sites starting early 2020, the cereal maker said.
The move comes as more food producers and restaurant chains are getting on board with plant-based meat alternatives. Leaders in this food segment, Impossible Foods Inc. and Beyond Meat Inc., have been tapped by food companies to recreate their menus.
Recently, YUM! Brands Inc.-owned fast-food chain KFC partnered with Beyond Meat to launch plant-based nuggets and boneless wings, while Restaurant Brands International Inc.'s Burger King has teamed up with Impossible Foods to introduce the Impossible Whopper, a vegan version of the chain's Whopper burger.
