Daimler AG will recall 56,018 vehicles from various model lines in the U.S. for various component defects, according to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The German automaker will issue five waves of recalls involving certain model lines starting in September.
From Sept. 20, Daimler Vans USA LLC will recall 8,243 units of 2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 1500, 2500, 3500, and 4500 vehicles over taillights that may dim or switch off completely.
Starting Oct. 8, Mercedes-Benz USA LLC will recall 17,755 units of 2020 GLE350, GLE350 4MATIC, and GLE450 4MATIC vehicles due to incorrectly installed air conditioner drain hoses that may cause water to drain from the air conditioner into the passenger compartment.
Mercedes-Benz USA will also recall a 2019 S450 vehicle whose pillar covers may have been improperly installed, possibly affecting the deployment of the side curtain airbags that could ultimately detach in the event of a crash.
The car brand will also start recalling 26,584 units of 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz C300, C300 4MATIC, and C43 AMG 4MATIC vehicles Oct. 8 over concerns that their batteries may not be secured, allowing the battery to shift, possibly disconnecting the terminals in the event of a crash.
An additional 3,435 units of certain 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 and GLA250 4MATIC vehicles are also involved in the recalls due to concerns that their rear middle seat belt anchor plates may not be properly secured, also increasing the risk of injury in case of a crash.
As part of the recalls, dealers of all affected vehicles will inspect and fix the affected components, free of charge.
