US government seeking comments on proposed Willow development plan in Alaska

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is looking for public comments on a draft environmental impact statement for the Willow Master Development Plan in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, according to an Aug. 23 release.

ConocoPhillips unit and project proponent ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc. said the Willow development plan will have a peak production of up to 130,000 barrels of oil per day over its 30-year life and it would help offset production declines in North Slope oil fields as well as contribute to local, state and the national economy. According to the BLM, the plan could potentially further the development of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.

The development plan includes construction, operation and maintenance of a central processing facility, infrastructure pad, up to five drill sites, access and infield roads, pipelines, a gravel mine, and a module transport island on lands managed by the BLM within the region and within waters managed by the state, the release said.

Comments on the draft EIS will be accepted through Oct. 15.
