Sequel acquires Gladstone's stake in seed distributor Star Seed

Private equity firm Sequel Holdings LP bought an equity interest in Star Seed Inc. from publicly traded business development company Gladstone Investment Corp., resulting in an investment gain for the seller.

Osborne, Kan.-based Star Seed supplies seed products, including native grasses, wildflowers, forages, cover crops, wheat and other small grains. It was acquired in 2013 by Gladstone, together with Broadgate Capital LLC and Highline Equity Partners, now known as ZJM Equity.

Sequel makes control equity investments in middle-market food and beverage, agribusiness, plastic and specialty materials companies, while Gladstone aims to provide secured debt and equity capital to lower-middle-market private U.S. businesses.
