PepsiCo to slash 35% of plastic content for beverage brands by 2025

PepsiCo Inc. announced Sept. 13 that it aims to cut 35% of its virgin plastic content across its beverage portfolio by 2025.

The company expects to eliminate 2.5 million metric tons of cumulative virgin plastic through the initiative.

The soft drinks giant said it will increase the use of recycled content and alternative packaging materials for its Lifewtr, bubly and Aquafina brands.

The new target is in addition to PepsiCo's existing packaging goals by 2025, which include making 100% of its packaging recyclable, compostable or biodegradable, as well as raising its use of recycled content in plastic packaging to 25%.
