India's Paytm Mall partners with BigBasket to compete with Flipkart, Amazon

Paytm Mall will partner with Indian online grocery and food products provider Supermarket Grocery Supplies Pvt. Ltd., also known as BigBasket, to take on Walmart Inc.-controlled Flipkart Online Services Pvt. Ltd. and Amazon.com Inc.'s Indian arm, Mint reported Aug. 30, citing Paytm Mall COO Amit Sinha.

The Paytm E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd.-owned company is India's third-largest online retailer and has an existing revenue-sharing deal with Indian supermarket operator Future Retail Ltd., Mint said.

Sinha told the newswire that Paytm Mall is integrating BigBasket on its app. He said it is also open to acquiring a stake in another retailer or off-loading a stake in Paytm Mall if a "strategic alignment" is needed, but he reportedly refused to comment on reports that the retailer has plans to take a minority holding in Future Retail.

Paytm Mall and BigBasket are both backed by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
