Scatec begins operations of Egyptian, Ukrainian solar projects

Norway's Scatec Solar ASA has placed another 65-MW solar park into service in Egypt — the fifth phase of the 390-MW Benban project.

The company said in an Aug. 30 release that Benban will be its "largest project in operation" and is also its first solar plant with bi-facial solar panels.

Scatec noted that the last segment of the six-phase solar complex is expected to reach commercial operation in the next few months. The company, along with partners KLP Norfund and Africa 50 Infrastructure fund, signed a 25-year power purchase agreement to deliver power from all six solar parks to the government of Egypt.

Scatec is the biggest contributor to the wider 1.5-GW Benban solar complex, which is said to be the largest solar park in the world.

Separately, the Norwegian renewable company said it commenced operations at its 47-MW Rengy solar project in Ukraine, which is expected to generate approximately 56 GWh of power annually.

The Ukrainian project is realized under the country's fixed feed-in tariff scheme until 2030, according to an Aug. 29 release.

Scatec now has 1,128 MW of solar in operation and a further 776 MW under construction across four continents.
