Fukoku Mutual Life posts YOY rise in full-year net profit

Japan's Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance Co. reported a year-over-year increase in net income for the fiscal year ended March 31.

The insurer said May 25 that net income for the period rose to ¥40.87 billion from ¥36.67 billion in the prior-year period.

Ordinary revenues increased to ¥749.71 billion from ¥743.17 billion as investment income climbed to ¥173.64 billion from ¥160.20 billion. Premium and other income slipped year over year to ¥567.21 billion from ¥574.43 billion.

Ordinary expenses grew to ¥693.24 billion from ¥689.06 billion. Claims and other payments for the period amounted to ¥501.18 billion, up from ¥489.16 billion.

Fukoku Mutual Life's solvency margin ratio dropped to 1,081.2% as of March 31 from 1,214.8% as of March 31, 2017.

As of May 25, US$1 was equivalent to ¥109.37.
