Investors Bancorp Inc. filed an automatic shelf registration statement for the sale of an unspecified amount of various securities from time to time by the company and one or more selling security holders.

The filing covers the sale of debt securities, common stock, preferred stock, depositary shares, warrants or other rights, purchase contracts, units and subscription rights.

The Short Hills, N.J.-based company plans to use the net proceeds of the offering for general corporate purposes, which may include repurchasing common stock; financing potential M&A; extending credit to or funding investments in its subsidiaries; and repaying, reducing or refinancing debt.
