Apple, Dell, Spotify, others face patent suits over data, cloud technologies

Irish company Data Scape has filed separate patent infringement lawsuits in the U.S. against several tech companies, including Apple Inc., Dell Inc. and Spotify AB, Dublin's The Irish Times reported.

Data Scape reportedly accused the tech giants of violating its U.S. patents, including those covering data transfer and cloud storage technologies. The company did not declare the amount of damages it is seeking in the cases.

Apple, among others, was charged with violating Data Scape's data patents through its music service iTunes and data storage platform iCloud.

Other companies sued by Data Scape include German software company SAP SE, which offers cloud storage services; Japan's Fujitsu Ltd., regarding device-to-cloud data transfers; Dell subsidiary Dell EMC; Western Digital Corp., over its My Cloud service; Citrix Systems Inc., regarding its ShareFile platform; and music streaming provider Pandora Media Inc.

Data Scape, which is backed by U.S.-Irish investors, was set up in 2017 to exclusively hold patents and other intellectual properties, according to the report.
