Berkeley Energia hiring contractors, staff for Salamanca uranium project

With the required funding in place, Berkeley Energia Ltd. is moving ahead with the award of major contracts and filling key management positions to begin construction at the Salamanca uranium mine in Spain, it said Dec. 12.

The company has selected construction company Sanchez y Lago as the contract miner.

The Wood Group's Amec Foster Wheeler was selected to deliver a fixed price engineering, procurement and construction solution for the construction of the mine, plant and associated infrastructure.

The mining and construction contracts are expected to be executed in early 2018, with mobilization of equipment to occur shortly thereafter.

Additionally, as part of its commitment to reduce unemployment in the region, Berkeley Energia will recruit about 50% of the new staff required for the first phase of construction activity from the local villages of Retortillo and Villavieja.
