UniCredit to assess strategic options when crafting new business plan, CEO says

Italian bank UniCredit SpA will assess its strategic options when it draws up a new business plan during 2019, Chairman Fabrizio Saccomanni said Sept. 8.

Asked at a business forum about a possible merger with France's Société Générale SA, Saccomanni said the new business plan will be "based on organic growth" and that the bank will "assess all available options" when it crafts the plan. Speculation has long swirled around the possibility of a UniCredit-SocGen tie-up, with reports in August indicating that UniCredit hired an ex-SocGen CEO to advise on a possible deal.
