Tesla's Musk proposes design, research center in China

Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk is proposing the establishment of a design and research center in China to create vehicles tailor-made for the Chinese market, Reuters reported Jan. 16, citing the electric-car maker's recruitment notice on its official WeChat account.

"In order to achieve a shift of 'Made in China' to 'Designed in China,' Tesla's CEO Elon Musk has proposed a very cool thing — set up a design and research center in China," Tesla reportedly said in the notice.

The WeChat post reportedly sought to hire designers and other staff for the planned center, with applications commencing Feb. 1.

Reuters said Tesla did not disclose its planned opening of the design and research hub.

The report comes less than two weeks after Tesla delivered its first delivery of a car made in its Shanghai factory. The Silicon Valley-based company has been cleared to mass-produce electric cars in China.
