GenOn wins FERC approval to sell 800-MW gas facility in Pennsylvania

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved GenOn Energy Inc.'s sale of the 800-MW Hunterstown gas-fired facility in Straban Township, Pa., to private equity firm Platinum Equity Advisors LLC.

Under the transaction, GenOn subsidiaries NRG Wholesale Generation LP and RRI Energy Services LLC will sell the combined-cycle plant for more than $500 million. Platinum will pay $498 million for the facility, with the expected closing price increasing to $520 million after adjusting for working capital.

GenOn is a subsidiary of NRG Energy Inc. (FERC docket EC18-70)
