Former KBW insurance i-banker moving to RBC Capital Markets

RBC Capital Markets LLC is expected to add former Keefe Bruyette & Woods Inc. insurance investment banker Neil Chawhan.

An RBC spokesperson confirmed that Chawhan is slated to join the company. Chawhan joined Stifel Financial Corp. unit KBW in 2015 as a managing director but has not been registered with the company since May 30, according to records from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Prior to joining KBW, Chawhan worked in the financial institutions group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. One of Chawhan's M&A assignments during his tenure at KBW was helping advise Securian Financial Group Inc. on a deal for Ivari affiliates that provide and distribute insurance products to Canadian banks, credit unions and retailers.

RBC has seen several significant changes to its FIG investment banking team this year. Jerry Wiant, who had been co-head of FIG, recently left to join Lazard Ltd. Venkat Badinehal, who joined RBC as co-head of FIG earlier in the year from Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., is now the sole head of the group.
